Connecting Food is one of the laureates of the SAP.iO Agtech Accelerator

SAP launched an agribusiness-focused startup accelerator program at  SAP.iO Foundry Paris, and Connecting Food is one of the selected stratups.
SAP launched an agribusiness-focused startup accelerator program at  SAP.iO Foundry Paris. Out of 900 applications, 8 international companies were selected by a jury of SAP experts, partners, customers and investment funds to join the program. “Digital technology and collaboration are key enablers to feed the rapidly growing world population in a sustainable way,” said Anja Strothkaemper, SAP vice president of Agribusiness and Commodity Management. “Working together with startups, we can combine our innovation power and serve the evolving needs of our agribusiness customers.” In only 10 weeks, thanks to mentorship from SAP executives, exposure to SAP technology and application programming interfaces (APIs), Connecting Food was able to identify new opportunities to bring increased value to agri-food professionals. “Through our collaboration with SAP, we have identified 2 integrations, which are currently under development” explained Samantha Gadenne, Global Sales Director at Connecting Food. “The first one has to do with LiveAudit®, our digital auditing module, and its direct integration with SAP’s LBN MT, and the second one is a sneak peek into the future of the food supply chain: the digital twin.”

HOW DOES LIVEAUDIT® COMPLEMENT SAP’S EXISTING TRACEABILITY MODULE?

SAP Logistics Business Network (LBNMT) is a traceability module that enables the members of a food supply chain to share some of their material genealogy data (such as product batch attributes, product batch classification data, and outbound delivery and purchase order information). Firstly, Connecting Food helps manufacturers go further than the ingredients provider location, and include upstream actors. Then, our module LiveAudit® acts as both a data normalizer and a validator application. At each step of production, it performs digital audits, ensuring every single quality criterion chosen by the manufacturer is met (for example:  organic certification, animal feed, product freshness, weight…). This integration empowers all actors of the food chain and enables food manufacturers to prove that their product is truly in line with its promises. In the era of Smarter Food Safety, this is essential.

PROVIDING EACH PRODUCT WITH ITS DIGITAL TWIN

The idea behind Digital Twin, defined by Michael Grieves from University of Michigan in 2002 and used for the first time by Nasa in 2010, is to «provide a virtual representation that serves as real-time digital counter part of a physical object or process». Using Digital Twins forces the Food Industry to change in their point of view of traceability. While most solutions on the market are focused on Supply Chain traceability, Connecting Food focuses on product traceability. At Connecting Food, we map out products from end-to-end and attach events like GS1 EPCIS standards, in order to create Digital Twins on our Blockchain. This allows us, and our clients, to have a wholly accurate view of the history of each product. By extending GS1 EPCIS standards, we can integrate other systems using the same approach, like SAP LBN MT. For example, we can provide information to complete the supply chain traceability by adding data and nodes from upstream actors.
